Grass Spider Close-up

In June 2002, Mr. Patterson took this close-up photo of a grass spider in a storage shed. Grass spiders are very common in the warmer months. They spin a sheet web that tapers into a funnel, in which the spider hides from enemies like birds and wasps. It's likely that you have several of these webs on your property. The spider below is a medium sized one (about 1 inch leg span).       (43 kb. jpeg)
